How we compared

What: triggers, channels, AI, handoff, booking, pricing and one lead checked in both.
Sources: Manychat’s Help Center, Chatfuel’s docs and pricing page, listed below.
Date: September 28, 2026.
Limits: documented, not tested hands-on. We build a Manychat add-on, so we’re not neutral.

Chapter 03Instagram

Instagram automation in each tool

  • Manychat

Comments, Story replies and mentions, Live, ads and keywords, with flow templates and an inbox.

  • Chatfuel

Posts, Stories, DMs and ads, answered by its Fuely AI agent, with live chat.

Chatfuel’s Instagram page (opens in a new tab) lists a drag-and-drop flow builder and mentions. Its help center (opens in a new tab) (read September 29, 2026) says it offers no button menus, quick replies or decision trees.

Same Instagram rules in both

A comment allows one private reply; the chat opens when the person answers. Automations then follow Meta’s 24-hour window.

From Manychat’s plan articles (opens in a new tab) and Chatfuel’s plans docs (opens in a new tab). “Not documented” means we found no mention, not that it’s impossible.

Compare number setup, templates, support handoff and message fees in your market. Ask each vendor what happens when a prospect replies late.

Same WhatsApp rules on any tool

After the 24-hour window, only an approved template restarts the chat. Meta paused marketing templates to US numbers (opens in a new tab) from April 1, 2025, with no restart date. From October 1, 2026, service messages (opens in a new tab) past 1,000 free per number a month are billed.

Choosing a WhatsApp setup first? Read the WhatsApp automation guide or the WhatsApp chatbot guide.

Chapter 05Price

Team workflow and pricing

Manychat sets users and Inbox seats by plan, with extra seats at $25 from Pro and lead routing on Business. Chatfuel includes unlimited teammates, and agents can take over any AI chat.

Manychat plans in USD, checked September 28, 2026

Plan

From Manychat’s plan articles (opens in a new tab). New pricing since March 2, 2026; older accounts and some regions can differ. Essential and Pro include a 14-day trial.

Chatfuel plans in USD, checked September 28, 2026

Plan

Agency SMonthly: $100AI credits: $100 a monthClients: 3 companies
Agency M to XXLMonthly: $225 to $2,050AI credits: $250 to $2,500 a monthClients: Unlimited companies
From Chatfuel’s pricing page (opens in a new tab) and plans docs (opens in a new tab), checked September 28, 2026. Names follow the pricing page; the docs call the $100 tier “Agency” and start “Agency S” at $225, and list Business at $20 with no offer. Yearly billing is 10% less; the 7-day trial includes $15 in credits.

Usage limits on both sides

Manychat bills active contacts above your plan and may pause automations far past the cap. Chatfuel’s AI replies and WhatsApp fees draw from a credit wallet, and processing stops at zero.

What a fair cost comparison needs

Quote the plan and billing period that make each test possible, then add what grows with use. Can’t find a term? Write “unverified”: a missing overage price can flip the result.

Chapter 06AI

AI and lead qualification

Picked the platform for your flows? Now check how each one qualifies and books the leads those flows create.

  • Manychat AI

AI-powered automation from Pro; AI Replies and Goals on Instagram, in beta. Documents lead qualification.

  • Chatfuel Fuely AI

An AI agent on every channel, paid from AI credits. Advertises lead qualification and scoring.

Both market AI qualification, so judge them on a test: run ten real, anonymized leads through the protocol in the same lead.

What to qualify on, and how to spot a false positive: AI lead qualification guide. What each Manychat AI feature does, channel by channel: our Manychat AI guide.

Chapter 07Scenario

The same lead in both platforms

One lead, checked in each platform’s docs: they comment for your guide, ask if it fits a two-person team, object, ask for a person, then want to book.

Lines to send from the test account
  1. Comment

    GUIDE

  2. Reply

Thanks! Does this work for a two-person team?

  3. Objection

Looks good, but I’m not sure it’s worth it right now.

  4. Human request

    Can I talk to someone?

  5. Booking

    OK, let’s book a call.

This lead in each platform’s docs, checked September 28, 2026

Step
Personalized answerManychat: AI Replies answer from your Knowledge library (Instagram, from Pro, beta). AI Step’s context can include your tone of voice.Chatfuel: Fuely AI answers from your Knowledge Base, with a persona: name, language, tone and greeting.
Control over repliesManychat: AI Step: a goal, tasks and context, with the reply saved to a field. AI Goals send a link or capture details.Chatfuel: Custom automations give a post, ad, story, keyword or link its own instructions.
Handoff to a personManychat: AI Replies can assign a person when they can’t answer. Lead routing on Business.Chatfuel: Agents can take over any AI chat at any time; the chat then stays with that agent.
Booking the callManychat: Not documented. An AI Goal can send your calendar link.Chatfuel: Built-in calendar; Fuely AI can create the booking itself.
Documented, not tested: what each vendor’s docs say, not what we saw. “Not documented” means we found no mention. Plans and beta access change what you get.

Then run the lead yourself, one trial at a time:

  1. Set up both trials the same way

Same account, post and keyword in both trials. Comment from a second account: the first reply arrives once.

  2. Ask whether the offer fits

Pass if it uses what the lead said and your facts, in your tone, without repeating a question.

  3. Run three qualification cases

A good fit, a poor fit and an unsure lead who objects. Pass if each gets its own next step.

  4. Ask for a human

Pass if the automation pauses and a teammate sees the whole chat.

  5. Try to book

Pass if the call comes at the right time and the tool sees a confirmed booking, not a link click.

For each step, note what handled it (a flow, an AI instruction or a person in the inbox). Write “not tested” when you can’t run a step.

Chapter 08Migration

What switching really costs

Moving to Chatfuel means rebuilding each path around its AI automations and calendar. Rebuild one path and test it from a real account before rerouting traffic. If the path to a booked call is unclear, a new platform won’t fix it.

What you rebuild, lose and keep, channel by channel: the migration matrix.

Chapter 09Agencies

Which one should a Manychat agency choose?

Running clients on Manychat already? Stay: templates and account cloning reuse flows, and each account keeps its own plan. Building a new stack for many clients? Trial Chatfuel Agency: one plan covers the companies.

Still unsure? Time five jobs in both trials:

  1. Duplicate a proven flow
  2. Connect a new client account
  3. Assign a teammate
  4. Review conversation outcomes
  5. Hand an unhappy client to a person

Agency setup as documented, September 28, 2026

Setup
Client structureManychat: One Manychat account per clientChatfuel: One company per client in an agency workspace
BillingManychat: Each account has its own planChatfuel: Agency plan covers the companies
Reusing a flowManychat: Templates and account cloningChatfuel: Not documented

If your current process is reliable, a migration must pay back the rebuild and the support time.
