Manychat alternatives: which tool fits your workflow?

Need a Manychat alternative? Pick by the job: comment-to-DM, WhatsApp, team inbox or AI sales. We build a Manychat add-on, not a replacement, so none of these picks is ours.

How we compared

What: channels, entry points, pricing, team inbox and what a migration rebuilds.
Sources: Manychat’s Help Center, and the pricing pages and docs of LinkDM, Chatfuel and respond.io, listed below.
Date: September 28, 2026.
Limits: documented, not tested hands-on. No scores, no ranking, no affiliate links. We build a Manychat add-on, so we’re not neutral.

Chapter 02Criteria

Choose by the problem, not the feature count

Comment-to-DM, WhatsApp, a team inbox and AI-assisted sales are different buying decisions. Start from what you need to check:

  • A creator with a lead magnet

Check comment and Story triggers, send limits and when a follow-up can go out.

  • A WhatsApp team

Check number onboarding, template costs, inbox handoff and permitted follow-ups.

  • An agency

Check client workspaces, permissions, reporting and migration time per client.

  • An appointment business

Confirm a booked call is tied back to the lead, not just a link click.

Instagram only? The Instagram DM automation tools comparison covers four tools and a lead-path test to run yourself. WhatsApp first? Read the WhatsApp automation guide or the WhatsApp chatbot guide.

Chapter 03Instagram DMs

LinkDM for focused Instagram DM automation

According to LinkDM (opens in a new tab), it sends DMs to people who comment on Reels, posts, ads, Live or Stories. It works with Instagram and Facebook only.

Comment-to-DM

LinkDM

Best for
Routing comments, Story replies and Live into DMs, for 1 to 10 accounts by plan.
Limits
No AI, team inbox, booking or WhatsApp documented. Follow-up DMs (opens in a new tab) on Pro only, within 24 hours of the Starter DM tap.
Choose it when
Your job is delivering the promised link, simply and cheaply.

Before you move live flows

LinkDM must be the Primary Receiver in Meta’s messaging settings, and its help center (opens in a new tab) flags this for accounts coming from Manychat. Test one post first.

Chapter 04AI sales chat

Chatfuel for visual chatbot and sales flows

Chatfuel describes Instagram triggers (opens in a new tab), lead capture, qualification and live chat. Its plans docs (opens in a new tab) add WhatsApp, Facebook, TikTok and website chat, with unlimited contacts and teammates.

AI conversations

Chatfuel

Best for
An AI assistant that qualifies leads, sells in the chat and books meetings.
Limits
AI replies and WhatsApp charges come out of a USD wallet: processing stops at zero.
Choose it when
You’re ready to rebuild your flows around its AI and calendar.

Check Chatfuel’s current price

Chatfuel’s plans docs (opens in a new tab) list Business at $20 a month. On September 28, 2026, its pricing page (opens in a new tab) showed that price as a limited offer until September 30, against $69. Check the current price.

Weighing just these two? See Manychat vs Chatfuel, side by side.

Chapter 05Team inbox

respond.io for a shared conversation inbox

respond.io centers on a shared inbox for WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, TikTok, email and more. Per its pricing page (opens in a new tab), team inboxes come with every plan; Workflows and AI Agents start on Growth.

Shared inbox

respond.io

Best for
Several people answering WhatsApp and social chats, with assignment and routing.
Limits
No keyword trigger (opens in a new tab) or comment keyword filter documented. WhatsApp fees are extra.
Choose it when
Routing across a team matters more than one creator’s comment-to-DM.

Test the real channel setup, the automation limits and the all-in monthly cost before moving conversations.

From each vendor’s pricing page, docs and help center. “Not documented” means we found no mention, not a tested absence. Plans and regions change what you get.

This table is vendor documentation, not a hands-on test. Run one lead path on your shortlist:

  1. Rebuild one entry point

One post and keyword; keep your current flow live.

  2. Comment from a second account

Check that one DM arrives, once.

  3. Reply, ask a question, ask for a human

Note where answers are stored and who is notified.

  4. Open the inbox as a teammate

Can they find the chat and the contact’s history?

Chapter 07Price

Compare total cost, not a headline price

Write down your monthly active contacts, DMs, connected accounts, team seats and WhatsApp message mix. Then price the same month on each tool.

  • Manychat · Essential

    or $14/mo billed yearly

  • LinkDM · Pro

    or $182/yr billed yearly

Entry prices in USD from each vendor’s pricing page, docs or help center, checked September 28, 2026. Taxes, regions and WhatsApp message fees can change the total.

Chapter 08Migration

Ask what you lose when you migrate

A new platform means rebuilding more than flows. Here’s what each part of a Manychat setup becomes, per channel and per account:

Migration matrix, as documented September 28, 2026

Part of your setup
Flows and automationsYou rebuild: Every flow, branch and messageYou can lose: Export to another tool: not documentedStays the same: Scripts you copy first
Contacts, tags and fieldsYou rebuild: Tag and field mappingYou can lose: Data you don’t export firstStays the same: Your exports (routes below)
Entry pointsYou rebuild: Every trigger, post by postYou can lose: Shared referral links: not documentedStays the same: One private reply per comment; the 24-hour window (opens in a new tab) opens when the person answers
Instagram accountYou rebuild: The connection, per accountYou can lose: Replies, while routing (opens in a new tab) points to ManychatStays the same: Your account and followers
WhatsApp numberYou rebuild: The number connectionYou can lose: Past chats, number move: not documentedStays the same: Message fees, 24-hour window

Contact data doesn’t export in one click

Manychat’s help center (opens in a new tab) documents exports through a Google Sheets action sent as a broadcast, a data-collection CSV or an External Request to your server. Plan the time.

Manychat’s Templates (opens in a new tab) and cloning (opens in a new tab) copy flows only between Manychat accounts. Manychat connects one Instagram account per account (opens in a new tab), so agencies repeat the move for each client. Then migrate one step at a time:

Chapter 09Decide

Keep Manychat and add a layer, or migrate?

Two different problems. Is it the platform, or the sales conversation after the first reply?

Decision criteria

Criterion
The problemKeep Manychat, add a layer: Leads stall after the first replyMigrate: The platform blocks a job you need
ChannelsKeep Manychat, add a layer: Manychat covers the ones you useMigrate: You need one it doesn’t document, like website chat

The workKeep Manychat, add a layer: Add a layer; your flows stay liveMigrate: The matrix above, for each account
Criteria from the vendor documentation on this page, checked September 28, 2026.

Which layer? First check what Manychat AI already covers: it may be enough for FAQs.

An add-on, not an alternative

If your Manychat flows already bring in leads, add a setter to the sales step before rebuilding everything elsewhere. ManySetter runs on top of Manychat and doesn’t replace it. See how the AI setter for Manychat works.
