How we reviewed

Checked: plans, triggers, native AI, messaging windows and WhatsApp billing, in Manychat’s help center, on September 28, 2026.
Not tested: we didn’t build flows or time the setup for this review. It’s not a hands-on test, so there’s no score.
Disclosure: ManySetter is a Manychat add-on, and we benefit if some readers install it.

Chapter 02Strengths

What Manychat does well

For resource delivery, basic segmentation and a visible inbox, that may be the full solution. Calling it “just a chatbot with fixed buttons” misses its AI (see our Manychat AI guide).

Chapter 03Controls

Manychat’s native AI controls

Can you set what its AI knows, how it sounds and what it does before a lead sees it? Here’s what Manychat documents.

Native AI controls, checked September 28, 2026

Control
KnowledgeWhat Manychat documents: AI Replies answer Instagram questions from your Knowledge libraryCheck in your trial: One question it covers, one it doesn’t
VoiceWhat Manychat documents: AI Replies answer in your voice (Instagram); AI Step context can include your toneCheck in your trial: A price objection: does it sound like you?
InstructionsWhat Manychat documents: AI Step takes a goal, context and tasks; AI Goals share a link or capture detailsCheck in your trial: One useful question, not a form
TestingWhat Manychat documents: Preview, then Set LiveCheck in your trial: Five hard messages from a test account
HandoffWhat Manychat documents: AI Replies can assign a person when they can’t answer (Instagram)Check in your trial: Does the AI stop once a teammate replies?
MemoryWhat Manychat documents: Replies and details saved to fields you pickCheck in your trial: Is a returning lead asked twice?
From Manychat’s help center (AI Replies (opens in a new tab), Knowledge (opens in a new tab), AI Goals (opens in a new tab), AI Step (opens in a new tab)). Documented, not tested. AI Replies, Knowledge and Goals are Instagram-only, from Pro, in beta.

On paper, it covers answering from facts, routing and handoff. What documentation can’t show: whether it keeps context through a sales conversation and proposes a call at the right moment. Test that before you rely on it.

Chapter 04Trade-offs

Where the buying decision gets harder

  • A first reply isn’t a subscription

A comment’s private reply doesn’t open the full messaging window (opens in a new tab) until the person interacts.

  • “Does it have AI?” is the wrong question

Ask what your offer needs after the answer: fit rules, a clean takeover, confirmed-booking data.

  • WhatsApp and agencies add rules

WhatsApp has its own message billing (opens in a new tab). Agencies should check client accounts, access and reporting.

Chapter 05Price

Is Manychat worth the price?

Manychat is free up to 25 active contacts; paid plans run from $17 to $199 a month, and WhatsApp and AI start on Pro ($39, or $29/mo billed yearly), in USD before tax. The grid dates from March 2, 2026; older accounts and some countries can differ. Price scales with active contacts (plan articles (opens in a new tab), checked September 28, 2026).

Whether it’s worth it depends on the whole bill: the Manychat pricing guide covers overages, Inbox seats and a monthly estimate.

Chapter 06Test

The test to run before buying

  1. Build one real entry flow

For your offer, not a template you won’t use. Follow the comment-to-DM tutorial.

  2. Comment from another account

Check the first private reply and the interaction that opens the chat.

  3. Ask two questions

A common buying question, then an unexpected one.

  4. Route the edge cases

Save an answer to a field, route a poor fit, hand a sensitive request to a person.

  5. Click the booking link, but don’t book

See what Manychat records. Then book a real call and compare.

A click logged as a booking?

Then its numbers can’t show which chats book calls. Count bookings from your calendar.

Chapter 07Decide

Manychat alone, with a setter, or another platform?

Option 1

Manychat alone

Best for
A resource link, a short branch or a native AI goal that fits your offer.
Choose it when
The first reply fully answers the lead, not a teaser.
Option 2

Manychat + ManySetter

Best for
Your sales voice on objections, a state per lead, and follow-through to a calendar-confirmed call.
Limits
Runs on your Manychat connection and doesn’t replace it. Billed separately.
Choose it when
You sell by call and leads stall after replying. See the Manychat AI setter.
Option 3

Another platform

Best for
You don’t want Manychat, or a required channel or workflow isn’t supported.
Choose it when
Compare them in Manychat alternatives.

Chapter 08Fit

Who should use Manychat?

  • Coaches

Start with a comment-to-DM resource, then check qualification.

  • Agencies

Reuse one entry structure; review each client’s offer and access.

  • Ecommerce

    Test product recommendations and support.

Keep the flows that work. When qualification is the problem, add follow-through to a confirmed call.
